PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shawn Michaels (ranked 2609 p4p, 311 weight class) and Asdf Fdsa (ranked 1644 p4p, 209 weight class). Michaels kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Sexy Boy. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 4 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Asdf Fdsa!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Ian Loll and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Michaels shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Fdsa but Fdsa pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Fdsa.
Fdsa remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Michaels is trying to improve his position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fdsa wants to control but Michaels is keeping him busy.
Michaels gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Fdsa working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Michaels is not content to let Fdsa control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Michaels is looking for a sweep. Fdsa is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Michaels is not content to let Fdsa control the position.

Michaels has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Fdsa tries to pass to full mount but Michaels defends it.
Michaels has hold of Fdsa's hands but Fdsa slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Fdsa slips a nice elbow through Michaels's hands, connecting with Michaels's forehead.
Michaels wants to improve his position but Fdsa is controlling well.
Fdsa looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Michaels with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Michaels is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Fdsa pulls his head out easily.

Fdsa keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Michaels's head.

Michaels trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Fdsa got a little sloppy there for a moment and Michaels has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Fdsa has managed to get both his arms back between Michaels's legs - danger averted.
Fdsa makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
We've been hearing good reports from Michaels's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Michaels had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Fdsa defends it easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Michaels looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Fdsa has picked Michaels up and slammed him! Michaels can't keep hold of the triangle and Fdsa manages to pass to side control!
Check out the look on Fdsa's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Asdf Fdsa dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Michaels decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Fdsa is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Michaels accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Fdsa lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Fdsa must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Fdsa is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Michaels has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Fdsa is looking to defend but Michaels has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Fdsa! Michaels pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Fdsa taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Shawn Michaels!
Shawn Michaels was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
