Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Parantainen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Damian Marley! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Robert Twigg and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Marley closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Parantainen tries to kick Marley off but Marley keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Marley escapes and gets back to his feet. Marley throws a jab but it's blocked by Parantainen. Marley scores with a takedown into Parantainen's guard. Marley trying to control but Parantainen is working from the bottom. Marley stops Parantainen from standing up. Marley wants to control from the top but Parantainen keeps moving. Marley stops Parantainen from standing up. Marley drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Parantainen dives on top into guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Parantainen is looking to stand up but Marley won't let him. Marley working a defensive guard here.
Parantainen won't allow Marley to sweep him here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Marley looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Marley is working an open guard so Parantainen takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Parantainen throws a series of strikes that have Marley backpedaling.
A big left from Parantainen misses. A punch combination from Parantainen misses. Marley misses with a looping right. Parantainen will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Marley tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Parantainen was well out of range. Poor timing from Marley. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Marley fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Parantainen sprawls well initially but Marley persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Parantainen has one foot on Marley's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Parantainen is breathing heavily. Marley bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Marley goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Parantainen rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Marley's guard! Nice work there by Parantainen! Parantainen stands up from Marley's guard - Parantainen perhaps looking for a knockout. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Parantainen misses with a jab, cross combination.
Marley missing with a left hand there. Parantainen was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Marley misses with a hook. Marley jabbing away but nothing is landing. Parantainen cracks Marley with a right hand to the side of the head. Parantainen misses with a double jab.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Marley misses with a few strikes there.
Marley feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Marley works a leg free and moves into half guard. Marley wants to pass to mount but Parantainen is defending the position. Marley is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Marley is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Parantainen has managed to free his arm - good work. Marley trying to control from half guard but Parantainen is working away. Parantainen pushes Marley off but Marley dives into side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Marley trying to control the position but Parantainen is working away. Marley works to advance to full mount. Parantainen defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Parantainen wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Marley controlling from the full mount. Marley goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Parantainen turns into him and now he's in Marley's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Marley throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Damian Marley dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Marley shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Marley showed some decent athleticism there. Marley trying to control from half guard but Parantainen is working away. Marley is looking for a kimura but Parantainen is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Marley to get the leverage. Marley seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Parantainen does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Marley moves nicely into side control. Marley is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Parantainen has escaped the position, nice work there. Marley is looking for a kimura. He might have it! That's one minute gone in the round. Marley trying to control the position but Parantainen is working away. Parantainen is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Marley has just dragged him back down to the mat. Marley works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Marley is looking to take a break and control but Parantainen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Damian Marley has got the better of the ground game so far. Marley is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Parantainen tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. Marley has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Parantainen! Can he survive? No! He's out! Marley gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
