PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Antigonus Monophthalmus (ranked 4358 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tiny Damians (ranked 4330 p4p, 432 weight class). Monophthalmus comes to the cage accompanied by Daemonia Nymphe -The Journey of the Psyche. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tiny Damians!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Colin Fray and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Damians decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Monophthalmus trying to control but Damians postures up.
Damians lands strikes from half guard.
Damians is looking to advance position but Monophthalmus won't allow it.
Damians controlling the pace.
Monophthalmus is looking for a sweep. Damians is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Monophthalmus looks like he's trying to stand up.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Damians connects with a nice short shot to Monophthalmus's temple.

Damians is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Damians is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Monophthalmus can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


The crowd cheers as Damians lands an impressive looking overhand right. Monophthalmus doesn't seem phased though.
Damians has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Damians decides to stand up, so the ref orders Monophthalmus to his feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Damians fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Monophthalmus manages to avoid it.

Damians shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Damians showed some decent athleticism there.
Monophthalmus wants to control but Damians is keeping busy.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Damians in particular looking to stall.

Damians winds up and cracks Monophthalmus with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Damians is nestled in close to Monophthalmus, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Damians really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Monophthalmus. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Monophthalmus won't allow Damians to pass to mount.
Damians working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Damians feints and as Monophthalmus raises his hands in defense, Damians changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Monophthalmus has his foot on Damians's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Damians works his way back into a safe position though.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

and Monophthalmus counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Tiny Damians is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Monophthalmus gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Damians to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Tiny Damians comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Damians has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
