Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Lucas Mereani! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dan Kolov! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Paulo Santos and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kolov scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kolov missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Kolov throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Mereani blocking the ground and pound attempt from Kolov. Mereani trying to control but Kolov postures up.
Kolov not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Mereani blocking the ground and pound attempt from Kolov. Mereani controlling the position well. Kolov is trying to control. Mereani wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mereani looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Kolov in particular looking to stall. Mereani gets back to full guard.
Kolov must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kolov is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Mereani looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kolov is one step ahead there. Mereani escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kolov gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Mereani looking for a guillotine here but Kolov defends easily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kolov accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Kolov tries to free his leg and advance position but Mereani is retaining full guard. Mereani bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kolov's guard.
Mereani thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kolov is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Mereani stands and throws Kolov's legs to the side, diving into side control. Mereani is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Kolov is trying to escape and Mereani transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Kolov is forced to tap! Nice work there by Mereani! Very nice indeed!
