Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chunzhi Zheng! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Elmir Zhemaletdinov! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, David Schapiro and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zheng fails in his attempt to clinch. Zheng looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Zhemaletdinov tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Zheng swivels and escapes. Zhemaletdinov shoots for a double leg takedown but Zheng sprawls well. He's pushed Zhemaletdinov's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Zhemaletdinov fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Chunzhi Zheng has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Elmir Zhemaletdinov. Zhemaletdinov tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Zheng defends well and Zhemaletdinov ends up having to push Zheng into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Zheng is looking for a counter combo. Zheng scores with a kick to the midsection. Zheng shoots in and drives through. Zhemaletdinov sprawls well. Zhemaletdinov dives in and grabs Zheng's left leg, looking for a takedown. Zheng pushes down on Zhemaletdinov's head and hops out. Zheng leaves Zhemaletdinov with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Zhemaletdinov fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Zheng quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. No luck with that takedown attempt from Zhemaletdinov. Zhemaletdinov leaves Zheng with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Zhemaletdinov shoots in for a double leg but Zheng sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Zheng tries to clinch there but Zhemaletdinov circles away.
Zhemaletdinov closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Zhemaletdinov is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Zheng is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Zheng is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Zhemaletdinov is controlling him well. Zhemaletdinov has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Zheng is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Zhemaletdinov yanks on the arm and Zheng is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Zhemaletdinov.
