Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sergei Volkov (ranked 2863 p4p, 340 weight class) and Syd Sydney (ranked 3308 p4p, 395 weight class). Syd Sydney is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Syd Sydney! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Gregory Folan and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Volkov closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Volkov working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Volkov lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sydney is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Sydney has hold of Volkov's hands but Volkov slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Sydney regains full guard. Nicely done. Sydney wants to sweep but no luck. Sydney manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Volkov manages to get himself to full guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Sydney working away diligently from side control. Volkov gets back to half guard. Sydney trying to mount his opponent but Volkov defends it. Volkov regains full guard. Nicely done. Volkov throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
That's one minute gone in the round. Volkov trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Connects with an elbow from the bottom, proving to the judges that he's still active off his back. Sydney connects with a couple of short punches. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Sydney's corner. Volkov has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Sydney stopping the sweep attempt from Volkov. Sydney looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Sydney looking to pass the guard. Sydney must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Volkov lands an upkick as Sydney stands over him. Volkov is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Volkov's guard. Volkov gets back to full guard.

Volkov postures up and lands a big shot to Sydney's brow. Volkov is in close to Sydney's body, working some short punches and elbows. Volkov is working the ground and pound from guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
