PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Norman Young (ranked 3312 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zhoujiangcuo Wong (ranked 3614 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Zhoujiangcuo Wong was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 23 - 0, fighting out of New York, Norman Young!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 11 - 1, fighting out of New York, Zhoujiangcuo Wong!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Russell Pearce and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wong misses with a head kick.

Young ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Young no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Wong working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Young seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Wong got a little sloppy there for a moment and Young has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wong has managed to get both his arms back between Young's legs - danger averted.
Wong won't allow Young to sweep him here.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Young shoots in but no luck this time.

Young decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Wong, up you get!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Young pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

and Young counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Young closes the distance and clinches.
Young tries to pull guard but Wong holds him up against the cage and eventually Young drops back down to his feet.
Young is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Young goes for a takedown attempt but Wong pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Norman Young overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Wong manages to work a leg through to get back to half guard here. Good work there by Wong, under a barage of strikes from Young.

Wong is trying to stand but he's just given Young his back.
Wong has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Young.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Young controlling the positon.

Young is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Young is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Young closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Young lands in his opponent's guard.
Young is standing up over Wong. Wong looks to escape but Young dives into side control.

Young has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Wong uses from the top position.

Young has his foot on Wong's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wong works his way back into a safe position though.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Young has a closed guard, preventing Wong from standing up.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Young looking for a guillotine here but Wong defends easily.
Wong would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Young has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Wong is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Young's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Norman Young is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Young, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
