PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Yago Steve (ranked 1105 p4p, 30 weight class) and Pauke Murhapuro (ranked 1390 p4p, 39 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Yago Steve!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pauke Murhapuro!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Dmitry Maklakov and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steve falls off balance throwing a combination
and Murhapuro counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Steve fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Murhapuro.
Steve throws a hook but Murhapuro avoids it easily.
Steve darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Murhapuro swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Murhapuro tries to clinch up
and Steve makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Steve uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Murhapuro.

A low kick from Murhapuro misses
and Steve counters with an inside leg kick.
Steve checks a leg kick.
Steve fires out a quick counter leg kick but Murhapuro just manages to avoid it.
Murhapuro feints and then cracks Steve's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Steve down.
Steve goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Murhapuro looks to land a body kick but Steve moved away.

Murhapuro unleashes a big counter combination but Steve bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Murhapuro has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

We've been told by Steve's head coaches at JAG Battle Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

enabling Steve to counter with a crisp jab.

Steve throws a predictable looking body shot
and Murhapuro makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Murhapuro closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Steve to the mat! Steve manages to get full guard.

Murhapuro is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Steve is aware though and is defending well.

Murhapuro has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Steve is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Murhapuro.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Murhapuro manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Yago Steve will probably get the nod.

It looks like Yago Steve has been cut.
Murhapuro throws a leg kick which misses Steve's front leg but catches the back leg as Steve tries to avoid it.

Murhapuro will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Murhapuro shoots for a double leg takedown but Steve sprawls well. He's pushed Murhapuro's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Pauke Murhapuro showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Murhapuro shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Steve as he avoids it easily.
Steve connects with a good right hand that stumbles Murhapuro. Murhapuro circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Steve throws a chopping leg kick but Murhapuro manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Murhapuro appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.

Murhapuro closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Steve did well to prevent Murhapuro getting side control.
Murhapuro looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

After the fight, Yago Steve was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
