The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smithers tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Quick was well out of range. Poor timing from Smithers.
Smithers throws a body punch but Quick moves out of range.
Smithers scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Smithers throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Smithers lands with a shot to the body.
Quick takes a swing at Smithers's ribcage but misses.
Smithers lands a jab to the nose.
Quick throws a sloppy body shot
and Smithers counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Quick is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Smithers avoids the head kick by Quick.
Smithers is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Quick rather than just go for the knockout.
Smithers jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Quick is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Smithers.

It looked like Quick wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Smithers fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Quick manages to avoid it.

Carlton Smithers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smithers works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

It looks like Dru Quick has been cut.
Smithers has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Smithers scores with a crisp jab that stopped Quick in his tracks.
Smithers lands an overhand right.
Smithers ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Smithers staggers Quick with a jab and knocks him down with a follow up straight! Quick looks in trouble, will he beat the count?! The count has reached 5 and he's only back to 1 knee - it's going to be close! 6,7,8 - he's up! Just in time and the ref is going to let the fight continue!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Nice uppercut lands for Smithers. That snapped Quick's head back.
Quick dips to his left and cracks Smithers with an uppercut!

It looks like Carlton Smithers has been cut.
Quick walks straight into devastating uppercut and drops to the floor, clearly wobbled! Can he beat the count? 4,5,6,7... he's up! And he's down again! The ref steps in and calls an end to the fight! What a punch that was!
