Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Edgardo Flores (ranked 2641 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ribaraoi Tawaivuna (ranked 2496 p4p, 0 weight class). Flores is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Edgardo Flores could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Ribaraoi Tawaivuna's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 12 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edgardo Flores! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ribaraoi Tawaivuna! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Jorge Garcia and Alyssa Summers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tawaivuna shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Flores but Flores pushes him off and we're back to square one. Flores is breathing heavily. Flores throws a head kick that misses. Tawaivuna tries to score a power double leg takedown but Flores sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Tawaivuna somewhat. As Tawaivuna looks to move away, Flores throws a big counter combo but Tawaivuna just gets out of the way. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Tawaivuna is defended easily by Flores. Edgardo Flores has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ribaraoi Tawaivuna. Flores misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Flores displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Tawaivuna. Flores throws a big counter combination but Tawaivuna scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Tawaivuna goes for a double leg but Flores avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Flores continues to drive forward. Tawaivuna tries to score a power double leg takedown but Flores sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Tawaivuna somewhat. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tawaivuna misses with a takedown attempt - Flores sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Tawaivuna scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Flores pushes Tawaivuna away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Tawaivuna gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tawaivuna is working to tighten his grip on Flores's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Flores has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Tawaivuna is really squeezing tight and eventually Flores passes out! Tawaivuna breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Ribaraoi Tawaivuna!
