PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tiger Grandpa (ranked 977 p4p, 121 weight class) and Baeddan MacAuliffe (ranked 2385 p4p, 249 weight class). MacAuliffe has chosen Notorious by Duran Duran as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tiger Grandpa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Baeddan MacAuliffe!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
MacAuliffe swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Grandpa counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Grandpa tries to stand but his hand is stuck under MacAuliffe.

Grandpa is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
MacAuliffe is pressing down on Grandpa's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
MacAuliffe not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

MacAuliffe is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Grandpa decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Grandpa looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Grandpa trying to control from half guard but MacAuliffe is working away.
MacAuliffe manages to get to full guard.

MacAuliffe escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Grandpa gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
MacAuliffe keeping moving, preventing Grandpa from controlling successfully.
MacAuliffe bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Grandpa's guard.

MacAuliffe cracks Grandpa with a solid left hand.
Grandpa is adopting a defensive guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Grandpa is on top in guard.


That's two minutes gone in the round.
Grandpa trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Grandpa wanted to stand there but MacAuliffe had control of the position.
Grandpa postures up.
Grandpa's corner is telling him to maintain position.

MacAuliffe is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Grandpa defends well.

Grandpa stands up from MacAuliffe's guard - Grandpa perhaps looking for a knockout.
Grandpa throws a head kick that misses.
MacAuliffe throws a counter combo.

Grandpa fails with an attempt to clinch.
MacAuliffe lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
MacAuliffe shoots in and drives through. Grandpa sprawls well.

MacAuliffe will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

MacAuliffe misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Grandpa throws a nice head kick!

MacAuliffe shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Grandpa is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Grandpa is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. MacAuliffe doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Grandpa.

MacAuliffe tries to roll over but Grandpa keeps him under control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Grandpa looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Grandpa stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

MacAuliffe closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Grandpa's guard.
Grandpa is looking to stand back up but MacAuliffe counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Grandpa.

Grandpa wants to control but MacAuliffe is keeping busy.

MacAuliffe looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Grandpa keeping hold of MacAuliffe's head, controlling as best he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tiger Grandpa dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Grandpa lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as MacAuliffe backs up against the cage.
Grandpa throws a sloppy head kick and MacAuliffe moves out of range easily.
Grandpa avoids the head kick by MacAuliffe.

Grandpa shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. MacAuliffe manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
MacAuliffe wants to sweep here but Grandpa controlling him for the moment.

Grandpa loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Grandpa stands and steps away. MacAuliffe gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Grandpa fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging MacAuliffe to the ground. Grandpa is now in MacAuliffe's guard.

Grandpa stands up from guard. Let's bang!

MacAuliffe blocks a head kick by Grandpa.
A nice combination there by Grandpa.
A head kick misses from Grandpa.
Despite the aggression on MacAuliffe's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Grandpa works MacAuliffe's body with a nice hook.

MacAuliffe throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Grandpa tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. MacAuliffe is in Grandpa's guard.

MacAuliffe avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
MacAuliffe controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Grandpa is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Grandpa had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. MacAuliffe defends it easily.

Grandpa has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. MacAuliffe has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Grandpa is trying to break free.

Grandpa escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Grandpa lands a high kick!


MacAuliffe is rocked!
The fighters circle, before Grandpa throws a beautiful high kick that crashes into MacAuliffe's neck, sending him stumbling to the floor! Grandpa lands more strikes and forces a referee stoppage! That one ended in an instant!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Kick & Punches). Tiger Grandpa!
