PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Kevin Schultz (ranked 2023 p4p, 121 weight class) and Marcel Petiot (ranked 6145 p4p, 248 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Petiot shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Petiot bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Schultz might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Petiot is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Schultz will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Schultz looks to move to half guard but instead Petiot has passed into mount! Damn! Petiot misses with a head shot. Petiot throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Petiot is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Petiot controlling the position easily from mount. Petiot working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Schultz looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Petiot! Submission of the night perhaps?
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Marcel Petiot! Marcel Petiot decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
