PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ax Lors (ranked 5679 p4p, 442 weight class) and Renan Nunes (ranked 5125 p4p, 421 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ax Lors!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Renan Nunes!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Daniel Franklin and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lors shoots in for a double leg but Nunes sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Lors darts in looking for a takedown but Nunes gets double underhooks and turns Lors into the cage.
Nunes misses with a head kick.
Lors wants to clinch
and Nunes counters with a head kick. That will keep Lors thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Nunes throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Lors goes for a double leg but Nunes avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Nunes continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ax Lors. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Nunes shoots in and bounces Lors off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Nunes showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lors wants to sweep but no luck.

Nunes is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Let's hope that Nunes has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Lors is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Nunes stands and steps away. Lors gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Nice takedown defense from Nunes. No joy for Lors on that attempt.
Lors tries to score a power double leg takedown but Nunes sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lors somewhat.
Nunes tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Lors drops down looking for a counter takedown but Nunes sprawls and moves away.

and Nunes counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Nunes is trying to trip Lors. He has hold of a leg but Lors is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Nunes persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Nunes is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Nunes gets to his feet - Lors follows without any prompting.

Lors pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Nunes drives through with a takedown into Lors's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Nunes controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Lors wants to stand and escape but Nunes is having none of it.
Nunes slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Nunes connects with a leg kick. Lors looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Lors has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Nunes can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Lors utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Lors darts in trying to clinch

and Nunes counters with a shoot takedown. Lors fights it but they end up in guard.
Nunes stays in close to Lors's body and controls the position.
Lors is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Nunes showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Lors knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Nunes on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lors is trying to keep Nunes in close.

Lors is looking for a triangle but Nunes pushes his legs off easily.

Nunes thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Nunes landing with the ground and pound.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Nunes won't allow Lors to sweep him here.
Nunes with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Nunes has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Nunes's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Nunes keeps the fight on the outside.
Nunes displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Lors.
Lors sets himself, and Nunes steps forward looking for the clinch! Lors avoids it this time.
Ax Lors is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Lors misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Nunes feints a counter leg kick.
The fight stays on the outside here - Lors looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Lors fails in his attempt to clinch.
Lors looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Nunes is fending him off so far but Lors persists. Nope, Nunes circles away and we're back to standing.

Lors shoots in for a takedown but Nunes shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Nunes scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Lors doesn't seem bothered though.

Nunes fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Lors to the ground. Nunes is now in Lors's guard.

Lors wants to get back to his feet but Nunes is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Nunes in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Nunes decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Lors, up you get!

Nunes wants to counter with a clinch but Lors pushes him away.

Nunes moves into the clinch.

Nunes pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Nunes gets in close and instigates a clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Nunes works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Renan Nunes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

and Nunes counters with a single leg into guard. Lors didn't expect that.
Nunes controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Nunes is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nunes seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Nunes.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Nunes throws a head kick that half lands.
Lors tries for a takedown but Nunes sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Nunes fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Lors takes a swing at Nunes's ribcage but misses.
Lors lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Nunes backs up against the cage.
Nunes scores with a head kick.


It looks like Ax Lors has been cut.
Lors goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Lors tries to sprawl but Nunes drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Nunes decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nunes circles away from the clinch attempt.
Lors shoots in looking for a takedown. Nunes tries to sprawl out of it but Lors keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nunes manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Nunes throws a hook but Lors blocks it.
Renan Nunes is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
A good leg kick by Nunes.
A jab from Nunes misses.
Ax Lors seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nunes takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Lors misses with a head kick.
Lors tries to clinch but Nunes is having none of it.
A combination from Lors does no damage.

Nunes misses with a looping left.
Lors takes a kick to the side of the head.
Lors with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Nunes to score with a decent uppercut.
Lors gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Nunes counters with a shoot takedown. Lors fights it but they end up in guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ax Lors. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Renan Nunes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Nunes has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
