The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Virtanen.
snipes sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Virtanen is looking to advance position but snipes won't allow it.

snipes throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Virtanen escapes and throws snipes's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Virtanen decides to stand up, so the ref orders snipes to his feet.
Zeke Virtanen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

snipes closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Virtanen to the mat! Virtanen manages to get full guard.

snipes has hold of Virtanen's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Virtanen manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Virtanen tries to lock up and control but snipes gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
snipes has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
snipes lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
snipes lands a big shot there that rocks Virtanen but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

BOOM! snipes connects with a massive shot to the dome!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
snipes lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
