PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Rambo (ranked 4502 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Walker (ranked 4973 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Rambo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sam Walker!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Tarja Halkonen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Walker throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Rambo tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Walker is in Rambo's guard.
Walker seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Walker trying to control but Rambo is working from the bottom.
Rambo looking to control.
Rambo pulls Walker in close to his closed guard and prevents Walker from doing any damage or advancing position.
Rambo trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Walker with a nice head shot there.

Rambo keeping moving, preventing Walker from controlling successfully.
Walker is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Rambo shoots in looking for a takedown. Walker tries to sprawl out of it but Rambo keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Walker manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Sam Walker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Walker pushes Rambo up against the cage in a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Walker goes for a takedown attempt but Rambo pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Walker tries to bum rush Rambo with a series of wild strikes but Rambo uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Walker clinches up against the cage.
Rambo lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Walker jumps into guard, dragging Rambo to the mat.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Walker holds on and takes a little breather.
Rambo wants to stand but Walker has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Rambo wants to stand and escape but instead Walker has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Walker is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Rambo looking for a sweep. Not yet Rambo, not yet.
Walker working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Walker is looking to stand up but Rambo won't let him.
Rambo utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Walker trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Walker is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Rambo is trying to keep Walker in close.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Walker is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Rambo.
Walker jabs Rambo to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Walker scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Rambo explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Rambo connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Walker momentarily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Walker ducks under a wild hook from Rambo.
Walker looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Walker shoots in and gets a takedown into Rambo's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Sam Walker will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Rambo tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Walker looking to land some kicks to the body here.

Walker drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Rambo wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Walker manages to pass to side control.
Walker content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rambo works his way to full guard. Good work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Walker tries to stand but Rambo is controlling from the bottom.
Walker looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Rambo trying to keep a closed guard but Walker is proving a slippery customer.
Rambo is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Walker is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Walker wants to stand but Rambo is controlling his posture from full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Walker.
Rambo tries to clinch but Walker moves out of range.

Walker pushes Rambo up against the cage in a clinch.
Walker can't get the takedown.
Walker content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Walker breaks the clinch.
Walker throws out a loose jab but Rambo uses good head movement to avoid it.
Rambo feinted with a counter takedown.
Rambo misses with a combination

and Walker decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rambo's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rambo utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Rambo pushes Walker off and gets back to his feet.

Walker has taken the fight to the clinch.

Walker's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Rambo closes this distance looking for a takedown but Walker circles away.
Walker shoots in and drives through. Rambo sprawls well.
John Rambo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sam Walker.
A head kick misses from Walker.
Walker throws a body punch but Rambo moves out of range.
Rambo throws a counter high kick but Walker was just alert enough to avoid it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rambo tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Walker manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Rambo fails to land the takedown.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Rambo.

Walker shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rambo's guard.

Rambo pushes Walker off and gets back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rambo keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sam Walker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Rambo is wriggling around but Walker manages to pass to half guard.

Rambo is trying to stand up here but Walker is controlling him well.

Walker working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Walker is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Sam Walker has got the better of the ground game so far.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Walker seems to be looking for submissions.
Walker blocks the strikes from Rambo.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rambo tries to roll over but Walker keeps him under control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Walker looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Rambo!
Rambo tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Walker tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
BOOM! Walker connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Rambo is just holding on here. Walker manages to take his back.
Good control from Walker.
Walker lands shots from the back.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Walker has good solid back control here.
John Rambo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Sam Walker is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Sam Walker comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Walker has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
