Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 15 - 0, fighting out of London, Tumleh Schmitt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Sean MacCarthy! The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Donald Grub and Daniel Bishop.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! MacCarthy feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Schmitt wriggles free and stands up. Schmitt gets tackled into the cage by MacCarthy. MacCarthy maintains the clinch. MacCarthy is trying to trip Schmitt. He has hold of a leg but Schmitt is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. MacCarthy persists though and gets the takedown into guard. MacCarthy loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Schmitt wants to sweep here but MacCarthy controlling him for the moment. MacCarthy is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Schmitt is on top in guard.
Schmitt wants to pass the guard but MacCarthy is keeping the position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if MacCarthy can do anything to dispel that myth. Schmitt is looking to work some ground and pound but MacCarthy has wrist control. Schmitt is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Schmitt wants to control from the top but MacCarthy keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Schmitt pushes down on MacCarthy's leg and manages to get into half guard. MacCarthy is trying to control but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Schmitt is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Schmitt is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, MacCarthy has managed to free his arm - good work. Schmitt is looking to advance position but MacCarthy won't allow it. MacCarthy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Schmitt. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Schmitt trying to control the pace.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Schmitt is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. MacCarthy tries to roll over but Schmitt keeps him under control. Schmitt takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Schmitt winds up and cracks MacCarthy with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Schmitt is working for a kimura but MacCarthy is defending it quite comfortably.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Schmitt wants to lay and pray for a moment but MacCarthy keeps working. MacCarthy has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Cozad MMA London. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one. MacCarthy tries to roll over but Schmitt keeps him under control. Schmitt controlling the pace. Schmitt wants to free his trapped foot but MacCarthy is holding on for dear life with his legs. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. MacCarthy missing with punches from the bottom.
Schmitt seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Tumleh Schmitt dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! MacCarthy crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Schmitt - the referee stops the clock and MacCarthy gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Schmitt. MacCarthy manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. MacCarthy has managed to clinch.
Schmitt decides to pull guard. MacCarthy is looking to work some ground and pound but Schmitt has wrist control. MacCarthy stopping the sweep attempt from Schmitt. Schmitt scrambles and gets back to his feet.
MacCarthy clinches up with Schmitt and pushes him back against the cage. Schmitt is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that MacCarthy can do to turn this around? Schmitt has dropped down and is working for a takedown. MacCarthy is trying to keep an underhook but Schmitt manages to get the takedown into half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Schmitt is sneakily working for an arm triangle but MacCarthy sees it coming and defends easily. MacCarthy is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Schmitt scores with a couple of nice shots. Schmitt controlling the pace. Schmitt seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead MacCarthy has recovered full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. MacCarthy keeping full guard, as Schmitt tries to pass. Schmitt controlling from the top position. Schmitt is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. MacCarthy wants to improve his position but instead Schmitt has moved into half guard.

MacCarthy wants to get back to his feet. Schmitt looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Schmitt winds up and cracks MacCarthy with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Well, if Schmitt is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Schmitt has managed to clinch.
Schmitt keeps control of MacCarthy as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Schmitt comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
It looks like Sean MacCarthy has been cut. Schmitt breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. MacCarthy drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Schmitt bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet! Schmitt scores with a nice body kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Crunch! Schmitt slams his shin into MacCarthy's torso. Schmitt has managed to clinch.
MacCarthy has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Schmitt clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! Schmitt is trying to shake MacCarthy off. He's managed it and has hopped back to his feet! MacCarthy won't be happy about giving up the dominant position. MacCarthy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Schmitt shoots in and bounces MacCarthy off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Schmitt throwing strikes but missing. Schmitt with a flurry of punches that miss. Schmitt passes easily into side control. Nice work. Schmitt looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Schmitt is working to tighten his grip on MacCarthy's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. MacCarthy has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Schmitt is really squeezing tight and eventually MacCarthy passes out! Schmitt breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
