The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Old Young displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Shiota.

and Shiota counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Old Young really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shiota. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Shiota is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Old Young is just riding it out for now. Shiota eventually gives up the hold.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Shiota looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Old Young with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Shiota is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Old Young is trying to stand up here but Shiota is controlling him well.

Old Young is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Shiota asserts his dominance and retains side control.

After the fight, Rodrigo Shiota was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
