PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tyrone Jagger (ranked 3500 p4p, 320 weight class) and Mason Rogers (ranked 4294 p4p, 380 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Tyrone Jagger has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Tyrone Jagger seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Mason Rogers!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Viktor Lagutenko and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A decent looking cross lands there for Rogers.
Rogers fails with a takedown attempt.
Jagger changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Rogers shoots in looking for a takedown but Jagger manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rogers's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Jagger attempts a counter takedown but Rogers avoids it well and moves away.
Rogers turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Rogers gets off balance looking for a body kick

and Jagger counters with a shoot takedown. Rogers fights it but they end up in guard.
Rogers has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Jagger has passed into side control.
Rogers can't do much from the bottom here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rogers regains half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rogers is pressing down on Jagger's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Rogers trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Rogers looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jagger is one step ahead there.
Jagger has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Rogers pulls Jagger in close to his closed guard and prevents Jagger from doing any damage or advancing position.
Rogers not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Rogers might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jagger haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rogers's coach down at JAG Battle Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Rogers's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Jagger gets tackled into the cage by Rogers. Rogers maintains the clinch.
Rogers gets underhooks to prevent Jagger's takedown attempt.

Rogers breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Rogers works Jagger's body with a nice hook.
Rogers scores with a leg kick.

Rogers is pressed up against the cage. Jagger has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Rogers down to the mat. Rogers avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tyrone Jagger. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rogers delivers a nice body kick.
Mason Rogers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rogers bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.

Rogers forces Jagger back against the cage and clinches.

Rogers manages to break the clinch.
Rogers scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Jagger really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Rogers tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jagger sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Rogers somewhat.
Jagger appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Rogers lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Rogers fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Jagger.

Rogers gets a clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jagger changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Rogers fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Jagger takes one on the button.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mason Rogers dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Nice straight punches there by Rogers. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Rogers.

Jagger tries to keep at a distance but Rogers has taken the fight into the clinch.

Rogers turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Rogers manages to end up in side control.
Jagger is pushing Rogers's head away, looking to escape. Rogers manages to hold on to the position though.
Rogers wants to control but Jagger is keeping him busy.

Jagger takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Jagger on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Jagger tries to get out of the position.

Rogers tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Jagger prevents Rogers from moving into mount.
Rogers moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Rogers fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Rogers is looking to take a break and control but Jagger is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jagger is looking to regain half guard here but Rogers keeps moving and retains side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Rogers wants to take a breather but Jagger manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Rogers.
Rogers trying to stand up but can't free himself from Jagger's guard.
Rogers wants to control from the top but Jagger keeps moving.
Rogers with a flurry of punches that miss.

Rogers drops back, looking for a kneebar! Jagger looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Jagger looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Jagger!

Rogers is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Jagger not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Rogers makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Rogers.
Rogers wants to stand up but Jagger is controlling him.
Rogers has control of Jagger's left arm, preventing Jagger from doing any damage.

Rogers pushes Jagger off and gets back to his feet.

Jagger gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Rogers landing some decent shots from guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rogers wants to control from the top but Jagger keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mason Rogers showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Jagger drops down looking for an ankle pick but Rogers pulls his leg out and moves away.

Jagger has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Jagger looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rogers moves into full guard.
Rogers working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Jagger.
Rogers controls Jagger momentarily but Jagger frees himself.
Rogers bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jagger's guard.

Rogers seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Rogers stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jagger swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rogers passes Jagger's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Jagger looks like he's trying to stand up.
Rogers wants to control but Jagger is keeping him busy.
Rogers is taking a breather. Jagger says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rogers trying to mount his opponent but Jagger defends it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rogers has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Rogers cracks the inside of Jagger's front leg.
Rogers goes for a double leg but Jagger avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Jagger continues to drive forward.
Jagger tries to counter with a takedown but Rogers is quick to defend against it.
Rogers fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jagger avoids it really well and circles away.
Mason Rogers is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Tyrone Jagger has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mason Rogers.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rogers shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jagger feinted with a counter takedown.
Tyrone Jagger has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rogers throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Jagger stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mason Rogers comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rogers has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
