PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tony Vespuci (ranked 24744 p4p, 560 weight class) and Rickson Time (ranked 24238 p4p, 587 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tony Vespuci!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rickson Time!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Patrick Alders and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Time moves into the clinch.
Time is struggling to control the position.
Time drops down looking for an ankle pick but Vespuci pulls his leg out and moves away.
Time fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Time moves into range and clinches up with Vespuci.
Vespuci stops a takedown attempt from Time.
Tony Vespuci has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rickson Time.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Time.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Time.
Vespuci gets underhooks to prevent Time's takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Time drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Time has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Vespuci after a bit of a struggle.
Time has had enough of the clinch but Vespuci keeps him there for the moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Time wants a takedown.

Time turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Vespuci is trying to work for a sweep but Time has mounted him!
Time lands a big shot there that rocks Vespuci but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Time is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Vespuci can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Time working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Vespuci can't escape the position.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Vespuci throwing hammer fists to the chest of Time. What's that going to do exactly?
Vespuci is trying desperately to improve position.
Time lands a heavy elbow.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Time trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Time jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Vespuci manages to avoid the submission attempt.
You can see the frustration on Vespuci's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Vespuci tries to improve position but can't.

Time is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Vespuci is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Time prevents Vespuci from escaping the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Time lands a few punches from side control.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Time tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Vespuci misses with an elbow from the bottom.
Vespuci manages to work his way to half guard, despite Time's best efforts.
Time is trying to control. Vespuci wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Vespuci knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Time on the ground.

Time slows the pace down in half guard.

Vespuci is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Vespuci is trying to maintain the position but Time is very close to passing his half guard.
Time sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Time wants to control but Vespuci is keeping him busy.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Time is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Vespuci actively working from the bottom here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rickson Time dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Vespuci stuffs the takedown attempt from Time. Time gets slowly back to his feet.
Vespuci fails to land the takedown.
Time fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Vespuci avoids it really well and circles away.
Time goes for a double leg but Vespuci avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Vespuci continues to drive forward.
Tony Vespuci has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rickson Time.
Vespuci shoots in but Time avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Time is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nice sprawl there from Vespuci as Time shoots in.

Vespuci bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Rickson Time has got the better of the ground game so far.

Vespuci stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Vespuci tries to score a power double leg takedown but Time sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Vespuci somewhat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Vespuci looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Vespuci shoots and misses
and Time counters with a three punch combo that has Vespuci backing up. Vespuci nods at Time to acknowledge the strikes.
Vespuci fails with the takedown
and Time counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Vespuci doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Time counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Time trying to control from half guard but Vespuci is working away.
Time with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Time is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Vespuci is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Rickson Time!
After winning the bout, Rickson Time thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
