Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Volkov (ranked 1419 p4p, 163 weight class) and Jason Arlington (ranked 695 p4p, 86 weight class). Arlington comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Unchained Melody kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Volkov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 3 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jason Arlington! The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, William Gold and James Ackerman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Volkov moves out of range of the strikes. Arlington gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Volkov drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Volkov jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Volkov looking to sit in guard and control but Arlington gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Arlington postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Arlington trying to control but Volkov is working from the bottom. Volkov controls Arlington momentarily but Arlington frees himself. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Volkov tries to land a sweep but no joy. My spies in Fist of Fury Training Center inform me that Arlington has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Arlington wants to control from the top but Volkov keeps moving. Volkov working a defensive guard but Arlington manages to pass into side control anyway.
That's one minute gone in the round. Arlington scoring with punches and elbows. Volkov prevents Arlington from moving into mount. Volkov is not content to let Arlington control the position. Volkov is trying to improve his position. Volkov is letting Arlington control him for a moment. Volkov is trying to control Arlington's posture but Arlington avoids it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Volkov tries to improve position but can't. You can see the frustration on Volkov's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Arlington thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Arlington working away. Volkov being controlled for a moment. Arlington trying to control the position but Volkov is working away. Volkov is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Arlington controlling from side mount. Arlington trying to control the position but Volkov is working away. Arlington tries to advance to mount but Volkov denies him. Arlington is looking to take a break and control but Volkov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Volkov tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Arlington defends well and Volkov ends up having to push Arlington into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Volkov looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Arlington is fending him off so far but Volkov persists. Nope, Arlington circles away and we're back to standing. Decent striking displayed by Arlington there. Arlington lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Volkov checks the leg kick nicely there.
Volkov tries to close the distance and clinch up but Arlington swats him away and circles back towards the center. Arlington throws an overhand right that lands on Volkov's shoulder, as Volkov tries to avoid the shot. Arlington swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Volkov with a poor takedown and Arlington cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ivan Volkov. That's going to take a lot out of him. Arlington looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Arlington is trying to control the action in half guard but Volkov is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Arlington takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Volkov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Arlington is working away from the top position though. Volkov wants to improve his position but Arlington is controlling well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jason Arlington dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Arlington gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Arlington has his foot on Volkov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Volkov works his way back into a safe position though. Volkov preventing the sweep. Volkov landing some decent shots from guard. Volkov trying to control but Arlington is working from the bottom. Arlington is trying to control the position from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Volkov stopping the sweep attempt from Arlington. Volkov drops back, looking for a kneebar! Arlington looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Arlington looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Arlington! Arlington wants to control but Volkov is keeping him busy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Arlington working away. Volkov takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Volkov takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Volkov manages to get back to half guard. Arlington prevents Volkov from improving his position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Arlington is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Volkov sees it coming and defends easily. Volkov is refusing to be controlled, as Arlington sits in half guard. Arlington has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Arlington might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Volkov haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Arlington trying to mount his opponent but Volkov defends it. Volkov is looking for a sweep. Arlington is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Volkov manages to get to full guard.
Volkov manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Arlington manages to get himself to full guard.
Volkov postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Volkov postures up.
Arlington is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Volkov's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Volkov won't allow Arlington to sweep him here. Arlington trying to keep a closed guard but Volkov is proving a slippery customer.
Volkov wants to control from the top but Arlington keeps moving. Arlington looking to hit a scissor sweep but Volkov is one step ahead there. Arlington keeping moving, preventing Volkov from controlling successfully.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Volkov trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Volkov makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Arlington seems keen to control Volkov's posture. Volkov is looking to pass into half guard but Arlington pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Arlington is in guard. Arlington trying to control but Volkov is working from the bottom. Volkov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Arlington doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Arlington manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Arlington cracks Volkov with a solid left hand. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Volkov keeping moving, preventing Arlington from controlling successfully. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Ivan Volkov will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Volkov misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Volkov dives in and scores a takedown into Arlington's guard. Arlington not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Volkov landing with the ground and pound. Jason Arlington has got the better of the ground game so far. Volkov trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Arlington escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Volkov gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Arlington is controlling Volkov's posture. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Arlington wants to sweep here but Volkov controlling him for the moment.

Volkov is working Arlington over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Arlington lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Arlington shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Volkov fails with a takedown attempt. Arlington throws a combination. Volkov tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Arlington darts in looking for a takedown but Volkov gets double underhooks and turns Arlington into the cage. Good exchange - Volkov coming out on top. Arlington scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Nice shot lands for Volkov.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Volkov misses with a hook
and Arlington counters with a straight right hand. Arlington dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Arlington throws out a powerful jab. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Arlington takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Volkov closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Arlington did well to prevent Volkov getting side control. Volkov wants to work for an arm triangle but Arlington is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Volkov winds up and cracks Arlington with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Arlington is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ivan Volkov. I think Volkov has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
