PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Urho Viikate (ranked 2610 p4p, 140 weight class) and Shu Fang Tzeng (ranked 1534 p4p, 91 weight class). Tzeng has chosen Mantra Chant as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Urho Viikate!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Shu Fang Tzeng!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Daniel Bishop and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tzeng slips under a jab from Viikate.
Tzeng steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Viikate.
Viikate tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Tzeng was well out of range. Poor timing from Viikate.
Viikate misses with a hook. Tzeng ducked under it nicely.
Tzeng is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Nice takedown defense from Tzeng. No joy for Viikate on that attempt.
Viikate throws a hook but Tzeng blocks it.
Tzeng changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Tzeng slips a straight right by Viikate.

Tzeng throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Viikate tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Tzeng is in Viikate's guard.

Tzeng drops back, looking for a kneebar! Viikate looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Viikate looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Viikate!

Viikate wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tzeng keeps working.
You can see the frustration on Tzeng's face as Viikate controls the position.

Tzeng is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Viikate looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Tzeng tries to roll over but Viikate keeps him under control.

Tzeng has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Fist of Fury Training Center. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Viikate's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Viikate has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Tzeng is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Viikate pulls his head out easily.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Viikate connects with a nice short shot to Tzeng's temple.
Viikate is controlling the pace.
Tzeng tries to get to full guard but Viikate has control of the leg.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Viikate working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Tzeng wants to get back to full guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Viikate throws a hook but Tzeng avoids it easily.
Tzeng tries to counter by closing the distance.
Viikate throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Tzeng slips a straight right by Viikate.
Tzeng moves in looking to clinch but Viikate pushes him off.
Tzeng keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Viikate.

Tzeng moves into the clinch successfully.
Our sources have told us that Viikate has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight.

Viikate is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Tzeng tries to pull guard but Viikate forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tzeng jumps guard but Viikate stands there with Tzeng around his waist. Tzeng gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Tzeng prevents a body shot from Viikate.
Viikate is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Viikate throws a knee to the head but misses.

Tzeng manages to pull guard.

Tzeng is looking for a triangle here but Viikate uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Viikate happy to just control the position for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tzeng is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Viikate is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Viikate looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Viikate scoring with strikes but Tzeng is staying in there.
Viikate with the ground and pound from mount.
Urho Viikate overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Tzeng tries to lock up and control but Viikate gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Viikate is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Tzeng can do to turn this around?

Nice strikes from Viikate there.
Viikate is trying to control. Tzeng wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Viikate is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Tzeng is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Viikate is trying to work for a kimura but Tzeng is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Viikate drops an elbow to the side of Tzeng's head.
Tzeng is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Tzeng has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Viikate is working away from the top position though.

Viikate seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Tzeng is staying active underneath Viikate, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Tzeng is desperately trying to improve his position but Viikate has a good base and remains in mount.
Viikate lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Tzeng wants to control but Viikate is having none of it.

Viikate wants to control the pace but Tzeng is squirming around nicely.

Viikate landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Viikate looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Tzeng with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Tzeng wants to control but Viikate is keeping busy.

Viikate is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Tzeng looking for a triangle here. Viikate is fighting it but it looks tight! Tzeng pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Viikate is tapping out - this one is all over!
