Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shamus Murphy (ranked 1489 p4p, 185 weight class) and Ikeda Toshiyuki (ranked 1530 p4p, 188 weight class). This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shamus Murphy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ikeda Toshiyuki! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Dillan Fox and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice takedown defense from Murphy. No joy for Toshiyuki on that attempt. Murphy slips a jab and a cross from Toshiyuki.
Toshiyuki misses with a body kick. Toshiyuki tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Murphy throwing a counter right hand but Toshiyuki manages to avoid it. Murphy with a jab. Murphy swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Toshiyuki throws a body punch but Murphy moves out of range. An attempted straight right counter from Murphy misses the target. Toshiyuki scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Murphy tries to roll over but Toshiyuki keeps him under control. Toshiyuki looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Toshiyuki looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Toshiyuki is looking for a kimura here.

That's one minute gone in the round. Toshiyuki is taking a breather. Murphy says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Toshiyuki missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Toshiyuki is keen to just control but Murphy is a slippery customer. Well, if Toshiyuki is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Murphy is not content to let Toshiyuki control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Toshiyuki is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Murphy defends it well. Murphy on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Murphy tries to get out of the position. Toshiyuki trying to control the pace. Toshiyuki trying to control from half guard but Murphy is working away. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Murphy is controlling Toshiyuki's position as best he can from this difficult position.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Toshiyuki throws a right and a left that both miss.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Murphy takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Shamus Murphy is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Murphy scores with a jab. Toshiyuki shoots in for a takedown but Murphy shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Murphy scores with a hook to the body. Toshiyuki takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Murphy connects with the punch. Murphy misses with a looping left. Toshiyuki appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body. Murphy blocks a head kick by Toshiyuki.
Toshiyuki fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Murphy avoids it really well and circles away. Shamus Murphy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ikeda Toshiyuki. Toshiyuki looks to score with a jab to the body but Murphy is just out of range. Toshiyuki misses with a leg kick and Murphy counters with a straight right hand. Toshiyuki scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Murphy staying out of range there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Toshiyuki takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Toshiyuki moves out of range of the strikes. Toshiyuki scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Murphy doesn't seem bothered though. Toshiyuki takes a swing at Murphy's ribcage but misses. Toshiyuki looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Toshiyuki darts in looking for a takedown but Murphy gets double underhooks and turns Toshiyuki into the cage. Toshiyuki swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A nice combination there by Murphy.

Murphy lands with a right to the head. Murphy softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. A short body shot lands from Murphy as the two fighters clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Shamus Murphy dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Murphy scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Ikeda Toshiyuki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Toshiyuki defending well as Murphy loads up on a big left hand. Toshiyuki misses with a body kick. Murphy blocks the body kick.
A little feinted left hand from Murphy on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Nice defenses there by Murphy. It looked like Murphy wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. A shot to the body from Toshiyuki misses and Murphy counters with a lovely straight right hand! Toshiyuki will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Murphy seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. Toshiyuki swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Murphy is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Toshiyuki. Toshiyuki drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Murphy defends it well. Murphy is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Murphy defending well as Toshiyuki loads up on a big left hand. Toshiyuki throws a body shot but no joy. Toshiyuki throws a big shot that misses. Murphy clinches with his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Murphy lands a hook to the side of the head. Murphy slowing the pace effectively. I was talking to Murphy's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Toshiyuki blocking some punches.

Murphy lands on the inside with an uppercut. Toshiyuki has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Murphy is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. A shot in the inside from Murphy. Murphy creates some distance for himself and unleashes a massive uppercut that sends Toshiyuki's eyes rolling into the back of his head! Toshiyuki drops to his knees and Murphy pours it on with more strikes until the referee steps in to end the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Shamus Murphy!
