PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jimmie Ryan (ranked 3559 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rob Kaman (ranked 4642 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jimmie Ryan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rob Kaman!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Peter Branson and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kaman tries to sprawl but Ryan drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Ryan looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kaman with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Ryan perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Kaman is trying to stand.
Ryan content to control rather than advance.

Ryan is working for a submission of some sort.
Ryan with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ryan working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Kaman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ryan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kaman is in a horrible position here. Ryan smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Ryan is nestled in close to Kaman, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Kaman regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Ryan.
Ryan slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kaman takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Ryan drops back looking for a leg! Kaman is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kaman manages to kick Ryan off! Ryan jumps back into Kaman's guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Jimmie Ryan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Rob Kaman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Ryan fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kaman sprawls well initially but Ryan persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ryan in particular looking to stall.

Ryan's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Ryan has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Nice takedown defense from Kaman. No joy for Ryan on that attempt.

Ryan throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Kaman was covering up waiting for the punch and Ryan finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ryan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
