TWGC 29 (265lbs, D2): Amsterdam Qualifier - Round 1 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a heavyweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Andrey Lapis (ranked 25090 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Gracie (ranked 7906 p4p, 0 weight class). Lapis's entrance music is Once Solemn . A fine choice. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 8 wins and 7 losses; Andrey Lapis! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 4 losses; Chuck Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Nard Betker and Paulsen Ambrosius.


The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Lapis jumps guard and drags Gracie to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Lapis is trying to control the position but Gracie postures up.

Gracie got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lapis has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gracie has managed to get both his arms back between Lapis's legs - danger averted.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lapis swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Lapis is trying to reverse the position but instead Gracie has taken his back - oops!

Gracie just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Lapis tries to escape but Gracie has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Lapis is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Gracie.

Lapis wants to control from the top but Gracie keeps moving.
Lapis tries to free his leg and advance position but Gracie is retaining full guard.
Gracie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Lapis is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gracie is just riding it out for now. Lapis eventually gives up the hold.

Lapis swings around for an armbar but Gracie sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Lapis's guard.

Gracie slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Lapis makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Lapis.
Gracie wants to pass the guard but Lapis is keeping the position.

Gracie is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Lapis can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Gracie controls the pace.
Gracie won't allow Lapis to sweep him here.

Lapis has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gracie can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Gracie is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

And that's the end of the fight!
