PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jesse Kilpatrick (ranked 277 p4p, 42 weight class) and Just Whymer (ranked 88 p4p, 17 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jesse Kilpatrick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Just Whymer!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Eliza Hachem and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whymer loads up on a big right hand but Kilpatrick slips the punch.
Kilpatrick takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Kilpatrick half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
The fighters circling - Kilpatrick throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Whymer throws a leg kick but Kilpatrick moved away.
Whymer takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Whymer throws a lazy right hand but Kilpatrick sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Kilpatrick decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Kilpatrick has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kilpatrick seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Whymer for as long as he can get away with.

Whymer remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Whymer is fighting off a takedown attempt but Kilpatrick is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Whymer to the mat. Whymer regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kilpatrick is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Whymer is adopting a defensive guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Just Whymer.
I think Whymer has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
