PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nico Baconn (ranked 5081 p4p, 503 weight class) and Ding Dong (ranked 4131 p4p, 453 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Nico Baconn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ding Dong!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Colin Fray and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dong throws a series of punches but Baconn avoids them all with ease.
No luck for Baconn with that takedown attempt.
Dong pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Dong misses with a jab, cross combination.
Dong connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Dong tries to score a power double leg takedown but Baconn sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Dong somewhat.
Dong throws a sloppy head kick and Baconn moves out of range easily.
Dong lands with a nice body kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Baconn changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dong tries to avoid it but Baconn manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dong to the ground. Dong escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Dong lands a two punch combo.
Dong lands a body shot.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Baconn is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Dong lands a left and a right that send Baconn crashing to the mat, dazed. Dong thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


It looks like Nico Baconn has been cut.

Dong tries to bum rush Baconn with a series of wild strikes but Baconn uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Baconn rushes Dong and presses him up against the cage.

Baconn has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Dong uses from the top position.
Baconn could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Dong wants to stand and escape but instead Baconn has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Dong tries to kick Baconn off but Baconn keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Dong is trying to escape back to his feet but Baconn uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Baconn decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Baconn lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Dong scores with a jab to the head.

Dong throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Baconn is breathing heavily.
Dong throws a push kick but Baconn slaps the foot to one side.
Ding Dong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dong ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Dong thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Baconn if he has to take too many more of those.
Baconn defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Dong.
Baconn throws a lazy body kick
and Dong counters with a stiff right hand.
Dong shoots and misses
and Baconn counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Nico Baconn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ding Dong.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Dong wants to break the clinch but can't.

Baconn decides to pull guard.

Dong wants to stand but Baconn is controlling his posture from full guard.
Baconn pulls Dong in close to his closed guard and prevents Dong from doing any damage or advancing position.

Dong wants to stand and escape but instead Baconn has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Dong wants to stand but Baconn is controlling the position.

Dong swings wildly with an uppercut but Baconn uses good head movement to avoid it.
Dong is trying to force a seperation but Baconn has the dominant position.
Baconn keeps control of Dong as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Dong wants to break free but Baconn has control.

Baconn manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Dong gets to his feet. Baconn looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Dong throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Baconn tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Dong manages to circle out of the way.
Dong lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Dong throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
No luck for Baconn with that takedown attempt.
Ding Dong seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Dong scores with a body shot.
Baconn takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
As Dong looks to move away, Baconn throws a big counter combo but Dong just gets out of the way.
Dong tries to close the distance and clinch up but Baconn swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Dong throws a right hand that Baconn ducks under and follows up with a left that Baconn also avoids with ease.
Dong lands with a right hand.
Baconn throws a sloppy head kick
and Dong counters with a straight right hand.

Baconn sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Dong.
Baconn has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Dong.
Dong closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Nico Baconn is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Dong catches Baconn with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Dong changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Baconn tries to avoid it but Dong manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Baconn to the ground. Baconn escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A counter left hand to the body from Baconn misses its target.

Baconn closes the distance and clinches.
Dong tries to break free but Baconn pushes him back against the cage.
Baconn drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Dong gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nico Baconn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dong wants to get back to striking at distance but Baconn won't allow it.
Baconn goes for a takedown attempt but Dong pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Nice body kick there by Dong.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Baconn decides to return to a standing position.
Dong defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Baconn.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Baconn closes the distance looking to clinch
and Dong counters with a three punch combo that has Baconn backing up. Baconn nods at Dong to acknowledge the strikes.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ding Dong showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Dong tries to clinch up but Baconn circles away and keeps his distance.
Dong's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Dong duly obliges.
Dong looks to land a body kick but Baconn moved away.

Baconn moves into range and clinches up with Dong.
Baconn lands a knee to the body.

Baconn pulls guard.

Baconn is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Baconn looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Baconn advances position into side control!
Baconn content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Baconn looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Nico Baconn overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Dong bucks up and tries to throw Baconn off but instead Baconn has got his back!
Dong wants to get back to his feet.
Baconn is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Baconn is punishing Dong with strikes - can he finish him?!

Baconn has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.

Good control from Baconn.
Dong is trying to get back to his feet but Baconn has full control of the position and if anything, Dong has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Baconn is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Dong really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Baconn. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
