PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ryo Hamada (ranked 1668 p4p, 2696 weight class) and Rovi Flexner (ranked 236 p4p, 345 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ryo Hamada!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rovi Flexner!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Alec Ball and Trevor Gratis.





The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hamada changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Flexner tries to avoid it but Hamada manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Flexner to the ground. Flexner escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hamada moves out of range of the strikes.
Flexner throws a right hand that misses
and Hamada counters with a straight right hand.
Flexner cracks Hamada with a good jab.

It looks like Ryo Hamada has been cut.
Hamada throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Flexner breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Hamada connects with a body shot that sends Flexner's belly button to the back.
Nice uppercut lands for Hamada. That snapped Flexner's head back.
Hamada looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Flexner throws a big shot that misses.
Ryo Hamada seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Hamada, as that shot connected.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hamada staying out of range there.
Flexner misses with a straight left.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hamada misses with a takedown
and Flexner counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Hamada slips a straight right by Flexner.
Hamada is looking for a counter combo.
A telegraphed right hand from Flexner misses the target.
Hamada falls off balance throwing a combination
and Flexner connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Hamada blocks a jab.
Hamada swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Flexner misses with a looping left.
Flexner uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hamada.
A little jabbing left from Flexner on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Rovi Flexner is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Flexner slips under a jab.
Flexner takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hamada cracks Flexner with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Hamada shoots and misses
and Flexner counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryo Hamada. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hamada pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Flexner back to the cage. Hamada follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Hamada shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Hamada in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Hamada wants to control from the top but Flexner keeps moving.
Hamada trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Flexner working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hamada doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hamada manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Flexner keeping moving, preventing Hamada from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hamada is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Flexner is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Flexner really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hamada. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Flexner is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hamada is aware though and is defending well.
Hamada has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Hamada drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Hamada seems to have locked his on tight now - Flexner screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Hamada, as he picks up the win!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Ryo Hamada!
