The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Nikonov rushes Vrjalya and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Vrjalya is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Nikonov to keep the fight standing. Nikonov turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Score +4 for clean takedown past guard: Vrjalya (0) vs (4) Nikonov Vrjalya is looking to reverse the position. Vrjalya is trying to control Nikonov's posture but Nikonov avoids it. Vrjalya on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Vrjalya tries to get out of the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Vrjalya tries to improve position but can't.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vrjalya manages to work his way to half guard, despite Nikonov's best efforts. Nikonov wants to take a breather but Vrjalya is having none of it. Vrjalya is looking to improve his position.
Vrjalya works his way to full guard. Good work. Vrjalya throws his legs up looking for a submission but Nikonov uses it to pass to side control.

Vrjalya has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Nikonov has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

That's two minutes gone in the round. Nikonov is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Vrjalya.
Nikonov is in a bad position with Vrjalya working for a choke. Nikonov manages to spin nicely into guard and the danger is over for the moment. He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Nikonov screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
