PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jose Carvaleho (ranked 352 p4p, 44 weight class) and Purple Aki (ranked 754 p4p, 96 weight class). Aki has chosen Dagestan (Remix) as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jose Carvaleho!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Purple Aki!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, William Peck and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carvaleho uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Aki.

Carvaleho tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Aki manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Aki swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Carvaleho seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Aki throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Carvaleho's waist but Carvaleho gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Aki off to one side.
The fighters circle momentarily. Aki darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Purple Aki showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Carvaleho has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Aki is working away from the top position though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Aki looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Carvaleho with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Carvaleho has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Aki can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Aki got a little sloppy there for a moment and Carvaleho has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Aki has managed to get both his arms back between Carvaleho's legs - danger averted.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Carvaleho enables Aki to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Carvaleho manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Carvaleho isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Aki stacks Carvaleho on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Aki!

Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - a gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

Aki lands a couple of good shots and Carvaleho has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

Aki lands a series of strikes from the back and Carvaleho goes limp! The ref jumps in to save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 5, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Purple Aki!

A relieved looking Purple Aki thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
