The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Puro ducks under a wild hook from Bates.
Bates jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Puro misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Bates throws a left and a right that both miss
and Puro counters with a nice right hand that sends Bates toppling to the canvas! Bates scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Puro finish him?!
It looks like Jon Bates has been cut.
Jon Bates seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Puro has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Bates has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
