Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Greg Grubbins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Daniel Steel! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Daniel Franklin and Santiago Holmes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Grubbins tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Steel manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Grubbins doesn't manage to clinch there - Steel circles away.
Grubbins sets himself, and Steel steps forward looking for the clinch! Grubbins avoids it this time. Horrible takedown attempt by Grubbins or perhaps it was just good defense by Steel, which made it look bad. Steel steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Grubbins. Grubbins doesn't manage to clinch there - Steel circles away.
Steel shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Steel lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Steel seems to be working for a kimura but Grubbins defends the submission attempt. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Steel lands a nice short elbow.
That's one minute gone in the round. Steel works his foot free and advances to mount. Grubbins wants to try and get back to his feet. Steel working for a guillotine from mount but Grubbins is in no mood to give up. Steel connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Steel jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Grubbins is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Grubbins and Steel has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Steel in side control lands a decent elbow. Steel has hold of Grubbins's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Grubbins tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Steel cranks the arm and Grubbins screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Grubbins, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Daniel Steel!
