Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mika Abreu! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paulo Costa! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Emerson Jorge and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Costa throws a combination that misses letting Abreu counter with a right hand. Costa swinging wildly here.

and Abreu counters with a left and a right that stings Costa. Costa misses with a combination
and Abreu counters with a two punch combo. Abreu fails with a takedown attempt. Abreu shoots in and drives through. Costa sprawls well. Abreu tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Costa swivels and escapes. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mika Abreu. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Costa on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
A combination from Costa does no damage. Abreu throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Costa's waist but Costa gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Abreu off to one side. Abreu slips a jab and a cross from Costa.
Costa gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Costa has control of Abreu's left arm, preventing Abreu from doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Costa wants to stand but Abreu is controlling the position. Costa throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Costa looking for a sweep. Not yet Costa, not yet. Costa is working an open guard so Abreu takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Costa misses with the combination.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Abreu scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Nice takedown defense from Costa. No joy for Abreu on that attempt. Abreu is breathing heavily. Abreu fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Costa throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Costa keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Abreu avoids a punch combination nicely.

Abreu forces Costa back against the cage and clinches. Abreu working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Abreu creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Costa's defenses. Abreu successfully pulls guard.
Costa throws a big right hand that misses. Costa tries to free his leg and advance position but Abreu is retaining full guard. Costa showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Abreu is trying to keep Costa in close.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Costa is looking to advance position but Abreu has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Abreu looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Abreu manages to capitalize on a mistake by Costa to take his back! Costa is trying to stand back up. Abreu seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Costa's chin but Costa turns very nicely into Abreu's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Costa.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Abreu counters with a stiff right hand. Abreu fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Paulo Costa seems to be getting the better of the standup. Costa misses with a few strikes there.

Abreu lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick. Abreu moves into the clinch. Abreu works on Costa's body with a couple of short punches. Costa is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Abreu stalling in the clinch.

Abreu lands with a left to the head. Abreu has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Abreu keeps control of Costa as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Abreu tries to pull guard but Costa won't allow it.

Costa is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Abreu stalls. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Abreu is stalling here.
Costa tries to break the clinch but Abreu is controlling the position. The pace really dropping off here, momentarily. Costa tries to circle away but Abreu has him pinned against the cage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. A frustrated look appears on Costa's face as he tries to break the clinch. The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. Costa wants to break free but Abreu has control.
Costa is trying to force a seperation but Abreu has the dominant position. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Costa gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Abreu.
Costa keeps control of Abreu as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Mika Abreu will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Mika Abreu is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Abreu tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Costa defends well and Abreu ends up having to push Costa into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Costa throws a left and a right that both miss
and Abreu counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Costa thinking. Costa has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Abreu dodges the punch combination from Costa.
Abreu attempts a counter takedown but Costa avoids it well and moves away. Abreu fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Costa takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Costa misses with a double jab
and Abreu counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Abreu feints and as Costa raises his hands in defense, Abreu changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Abreu wants to pass the guard but Costa is keeping the position. Abreu trying to control the position from guard on top but Costa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Costa managing to control the position. Costa is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Costa is trying to hold Abreu in close to prevent damage but Abreu has managed to pass into half guard.
Costa holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Costa wants to improve his position but Abreu is controlling well.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Paulo Costa is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Abreu clinches with his opponent.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mika Abreu. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Abreu, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
