PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brian Baker (ranked 3562 p4p, 347 weight class) and Gustav Rinaldi (ranked 5746 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 11 - 2, fighting out of St Petersburg, Brian Baker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Gustav Rinaldi!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Paul Aken and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rinaldi keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Our spies down at at UnderGround Training Facility inform us that Rinaldi has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Rinaldi will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Baker keeps control of Rinaldi as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Baker is trying to pull guard but Rinaldi turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Rinaldi is trying to break the clinch but Baker has him pressed against the cage.

Baker jumps into guard, dragging Rinaldi to the mat.
Rinaldi is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Rinaldi throws a big elbow that misses.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rinaldi wants to control from the top but Baker keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rinaldi postures up in Baker's guard and throws a big left but Baker blocks it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Baker has his foot on Rinaldi's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rinaldi works his way back into a safe position though.

Baker is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rinaldi defends well.

Baker working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rinaldi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rinaldi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Baker has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rinaldi can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Baker ducks under a wild hook from Rinaldi.

Despite the aggression on Rinaldi's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Rinaldi leaves Baker with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Baker tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rinaldi defends well and Baker ends up having to push Rinaldi into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Rinaldi got a little sloppy there for a moment and Baker has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rinaldi has managed to get both his arms back between Baker's legs - danger averted.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Baker dives in and grabs Rinaldi's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rinaldi pushes down on Baker's head and hops out.
Rinaldi swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Baker tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rinaldi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Baker somewhat.

I've got Rinaldi winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
