Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Nuori Suoni! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jukko Hamalainen! The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Paulo Santos and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Suoni lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Suoni misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hamalainen.
Hamalainen looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Suoni is fending him off so far but Hamalainen persists. Nope, Suoni circles away and we're back to standing. Suoni throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Hamalainen. Nuori Suoni seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Suoni throws an overhand right that lands on Hamalainen's shoulder, as Hamalainen tries to avoid the shot. Hamalainen throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Suoni's waist but Suoni gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hamalainen off to one side. Hamalainen keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Suoni misses with a takedown and Hamalainen counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Hamalainen wants to control but Suoni is keeping him busy. Hamalainen trying to mount his opponent but Suoni defends it. Hamalainen is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
That's one minute gone in the round. Suoni is controlling Hamalainen's trapped leg to prevent Hamalainen from advancing to side control. Suoni is looking to escape. Hamalainen perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Hamalainen is trying to control the action in half guard but Suoni is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Hamalainen seems to be looking for submissions.
Hamalainen looks gassed! Hamalainen seems to be working for a kimura but Suoni defends the submission attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Suoni is trying to control but can't.
Hamalainen looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Suoni could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Suoni wants to get back to his feet.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Hamalainen gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Suoni counters with a takedown into side control. Nuori Suoni has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jukko Hamalainen. Suoni tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. Hamalainen manages to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hamalainen is trying to control but can't.

Hamalainen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Suoni doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Hamalainen is tightening it up a little... Suoni has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Suoni reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Suoni taps out! nice BJJ there by Hamalainen!
