PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kron Kai (ranked 203 p4p, 36 weight class) and Cleon Wright (ranked 765 p4p, 116 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kai was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.

Kai has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Ice Cream Parlour in the buildup to the fight.

As Wright backs away, Kai returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Cleon Wright seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Kai counters with a nice low kick that buckles Wright's knee momentarily.

Kai with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Wright to score with a decent uppercut.

Kai connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Kai changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Wright wants to slow Kai down by chopping away at his legs.
Kai feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Kai lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

That has opened up Cleon Wright's cut even more.
Kai scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Wright takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Wright scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Kai throws a push kick but Wright slaps the foot to one side.
Wright digs a good body shot into Kai's ribs.
Kai swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Wright throws a leg kick but Kai sees it coming and moves out of range.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Cleon Wright will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Kai cracks Wright with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Kai has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Wright to stand back up!

and Kai counters with a nice right hand that sends Wright toppling to the canvas! Wright scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Kai finish him?!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The cut above Cleon Wright's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with eachother but Wright might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Kai has got the better of the exchanges.
Kai takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Kai has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Kai here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

and Kai counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Kai is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Wright.

Kai feints and then cracks Wright's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Wright down.

Cleon Wright's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Wright's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kai drops Wright with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Wright looks back up at him and smiles so Kai waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Cleon Wright's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:07 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Kron Kai!
