PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Beta Knox (ranked 628 p4p, 79 weight class) and James Cole (ranked 547 p4p, 69 weight class). Knox comes to the cage accompanied by Anthrax | Fight Em Till You Can't. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Beta Knox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 1, fighting out of New York, James Cole!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Knox throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Beta Knox seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cole misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Knox.
Cole scores with a three punch combo!


It looks like Beta Knox has been cut.
Knox has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Knox lands a slapping body shot.
Cole is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Knox.
Knox avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
A big left from Cole misses.
Knox attempts a counter takedown but Cole avoids it well and moves away.

Knox moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Cole looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

As Knox backs off Cole throws a huge counter combo but Knox manages to avoid it all.
Knox lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Cole ducks right into an uppercut from Knox.
Knox scores with a punch to the head.

Knox feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Cole is trying to maintain the position but Knox is very close to passing his half guard.
Knox lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Knox is in close to Cole's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Knox wants to control from the top but Cole keeps moving.

Cole is trying to keep Knox in close.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Knox slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Knox lands a couple of digs.

Cole escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Knox gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Knox postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Knox lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Knox has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cole keeping moving, preventing Knox from controlling successfully.

Knox keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Cole's head.
Knox makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Cole takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
A looping hook to the body misses from Cole. Knox does a little dance to reset his feet.
Knox ducks right into an uppercut from Cole.
Knox has his takedown stuffed
enabling Cole to counter with a crisp jab.
Knox throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Cole now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Donk. Knox catches Cole right on the button with a cross.
A swing and a miss from Knox.
Knox misses with a hook
and Cole counters with a stiff right hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cole drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Knox throws a lazy right hand but Cole sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Cole swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Knox connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Knox misses with an uppercut
and Cole counters with a nice uppercut.
Knox is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Cole can do to turn this around?

Cole throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Knox sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Cole takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Knox lands with a nice body punch.
Cole swings for the body but Knox moves out of range.
Knox is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Knox smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
James Cole is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Cole with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Knox to score with a decent uppercut.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

It looked like Knox was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Cole.
Cole slips a straight right by Knox.

and Cole counters with a straight right hand.
Cole is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Knox drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cole is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Cole seems keen to control Knox's posture.
Cole's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

A quick step to the side and Knox tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Cole uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Knox.

and Knox connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Cole takes a jab right on the kisser.
Knox connects with a right hand. Cole shakes it off.

Knox scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
You can see the frustration on Cole's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Oooooh, big shot lands for Knox! Cole is hurt baaadly! Knox is firing away with more strikes - Cole is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Beta Knox!
A relieved looking Beta Knox thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
