Coming up we have a welterweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Shane MacGowan (ranked 1769 p4p, 242 weight class) and Igor Byhenikov (ranked 15945 p4p, 705 weight class). Byhenikov is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Harbinger. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Amsterdam, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 1 losses; Shane MacGowan! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 22 wins and 13 losses; Igor Byhenikov! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Byhenikov shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in MacGowan's guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: MacGowan (0) vs (2) Byhenikov MacGowan keeping full guard, as Byhenikov tries to pass. MacGowan pulls Byhenikov in to control the position. Byhenikov passes MacGowan's right leg, so he's now in half guard. MacGowan has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. Byhenikov is sneakily working for an arm triangle but MacGowan sees it coming and defends easily. Byhenikov trying to pass the guard but MacGowan defending well. MacGowan moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. MacGowan keeping full guard, as Byhenikov tries to pass. Byhenikov told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Byhenikov drops back, looking for a kneebar! Byhenikov is looking to take a break and control but MacGowan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Byhenikov looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. MacGowan is looking to control Byhenikov's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can MacGowan avoid being mounted? Byhenikov wants to pass to mount but MacGowan is defending the position. Byhenikov is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and MacGowan reverses the position - he's now on top in Byhenikov's guard. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Byhenikov is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Byhenikov bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in MacGowan's guard. Byhenikov defends it easily. Byhenikov is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Byhenikov tries to free his leg and advance position but MacGowan is retaining full guard. MacGowan keeping moving, preventing Byhenikov from controlling successfully. Byhenikov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. MacGowan swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Byhenikov has knee on belly momentarily but MacGowan bucks him off and regains half guard. MacGowan is controlling Byhenikov's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Byhenikov keeps trying to improve his position. MacGowan controlling the position for now. MacGowan won't allow Byhenikov to pass to mount. Byhenikov is looking for submissions but instead, MacGowan has regained full guard.
Byhenikov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. MacGowan swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Score +3 for passing guard: MacGowan (6) vs (12) Byhenikov Byhenikov tries to advance to mount but MacGowan instead regains half guard. MacGowan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Byhenikov is working away from the top position though. MacGowan wants to get back to full guard. Byhenikov is pressing down on MacGowan's thigh, looking to free his foot. MacGowan is holding on for now. MacGowan is in trouble now - Byhenikov has advanced to mount! Score +3 for passing guard: MacGowan (6) vs (15) Byhenikov
That's six minutes gone in the round. MacGowan stops Byhenikov from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better. Byhenikov jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… MacGowan is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by MacGowan and Byhenikov has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Byhenikov tries to advance to mount but can't. Byhenikov moves into full mount! Score +2 for reaching mount: MacGowan (6) vs (17) Byhenikov Byhenikov pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.

That's seven minutes gone in the round. Byhenikov looking for the RNC. Byhenikov avoiding MacGowan 's attempts to control his hands. MacGowan prevents Byhenikov from getting a body triangle. Byhenikov has his opponent's back and is working for the choke. Byhenikov is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but MacGowan has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. Byhenikov looking for the choke from the back.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. MacGowan is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Byhenikov gets his way!
Byhenikov looking to break MacGowan's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. MacGowan remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Byhenikov will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! I really don't envy MacGowan right now.
