Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tom Dirk (ranked 1142 p4p, 138 weight class) and Fedor Petrov (ranked 1865 p4p, 206 weight class). Petrov is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: They want too see me fall. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tom Dirk! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fedor Petrov! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fighters circling - Petrov throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Petrov throws a right and a left that Dirk avoids nicely. Dirk cracks Petrov with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Petrov dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Dirk getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Petrov on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Fedor Petrov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Petrov takes a jab right on the kisser.
Dirk cracks Petrov with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Dirk comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Dirk's corner calls for a 1-2. Dirk obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. This has been an exciting period of action! Dirk throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Petrov gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Dirk decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Petrov, up you get! Petrov swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Dirk lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Petrov at a distance.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Petrov has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Petrov throws an off balance right hand
and Dirk counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
It looks like Fedor Petrov has been cut. Dirk scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Dirk fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Petrov to the ground. Dirk is now in Petrov's guard. Dirk gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. A lazy left from Dirk finds it's target. Dirk lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Dirk connects with a right hand. Petrov shakes it off. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. A left lands for Dirk. Dirk connects with a good right hand that stumbles Petrov. Petrov circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Dirk takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Petrov tries to clinch there but Dirk circles away.
Dirk shoots in for a takedown and gets it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Dirk is pressing down on Petrov's thigh, looking to free his foot. Petrov is holding on for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dirk works his way into side control. Petrov can't do much from the bottom here. Dirk is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Petrov has escaped the position, nice work there. Petrov stops Dirk from passing to mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dirk content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. Petrov struggling a bit here. Dirk moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Dirk decides to stand up, so the ref orders Petrov to his feet. Petrov doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Sloppy strikes from Petrov. Those never looked like landing. Fedor Petrov is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Dirk has taken the fight to the clinch.
Petrov is looking to break free of the clinch but Dirk has double underhooks. A quick uppercut on the inside from Dirk. Dirk lands with a light punch inside. Dirk cracks Petrov with a nice body shot. Dirk goes for a takedown in the clinch but Petrov prevents it.

A little feinted left hand from Dirk on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Dirk shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Petrov napping and manages to drive through into side control! Dirk takes a little break here. Petrov wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Dirk decides to take the fight back to the feet. Petrov takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Dirk cracks a nice hook into Petrov's ribs. Petrov takes a shot to the body in his stride.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A swing and a miss from Petrov. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Dirk works the jab nicely. Dirk slips under a jab. Dirk wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Petrov throws a right and a left that Dirk avoids nicely. Petrov takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. Petrov doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Dirk shoots in and gets a takedown into Petrov's guard. Petrov has a closed guard, preventing Dirk from standing up. Dirk is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Petrov can do to turn this around? Dirk engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Dirk works a leg free and moves into half guard.

and Dirk counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Petrov throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Dirk counters with a straight right hand. Dirk feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Dirk pushing down on Petrov's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Petrov is in trouble now - Dirk has advanced to mount!

A punch lands to the side of Petrov 's head but he takes it in his stride. Sloppy strikes from Petrov. Those never looked like landing. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Petrov takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Dirk lands a jab to Petrov's midsection. Dirk changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Dirk sizes up Petrov with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Dirk misses with a two punch combination.

Dirk stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Fedor Petrov is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Petrov keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Dirk throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Petrov stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Dirk gets a clinch. Petrov can't break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Dirk prevents Petrov from breaking the clinch. Dirk tightens his grip and picks Petrov up, before dumping him to the ground. Petrov manages to land in guard. Dirk advances to half guard. Petrov takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Dirk wants to free his trapped foot but Petrov is holding on for dear life with his legs.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dirk stands up from half guard. Petrov takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. A shot to the liver by Dirk. Beautiful body shot. Petrov throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
A left lands for Dirk. Petrov ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Dirk moves away. Dirk appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body. Sloppy strikes from Dirk. Those never looked like landing. Petrov misses with a lunging right hand
and Dirk counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Petrov wants to get back to his feet but Dirk passes into half guard.

Dirk is working Petrov over against the cage. Petrov tries to break the clinch but Dirk is controlling the position. Petrov looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Dirk scores with a nice hook to the head. Dirk wants the takedown. Petrov is fighting it off but Dirk persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Petrov's guard against the cage.

Dirk wanted to stand there but Petrov had control of the position. Petrov can't keep his opponent in guard - Dirk advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Dirk works his foot free and advances to mount. Dirk with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.

Dirk rushes Petrov and presses him up against the cage.

Dirk no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Dirk wants to stand but Petrov is controlling the position. Dirk is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Petrov is aware though and is defending well. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Petrov stops Dirk from standing up. Dirk looking to hit a scissor sweep but Petrov is one step ahead there. Dirk keeping moving, preventing Petrov from controlling successfully. Dirk is pulling down on Petrov's head. It's preventing any offense from Petrov, at least for the moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dirk is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Petrov is aware though and is defending well. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dirk is on top in guard.

Dirk is looking to wear down Petrov with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Dirk jabs at Petrov's body. Petrov will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
