Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jesse Ristinen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Diego Diaz! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Paul Tew and William Gold.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ristinen drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Diaz is looking for a sweep. Diaz sneaks back into half guard. Diaz actively working from the bottom here. Ristinen is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Diaz is just riding it out for now. Ristinen eventually gives up the hold. Diaz wants to improve his position but Ristinen is controlling well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ristinen is trying to control. Diaz wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ristinen tries to pass to full mount but Diaz defends it. Diaz works his way to full guard. Good work. Diaz has his foot on Ristinen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ristinen works his way back into a safe position though. Diaz looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Ristinen puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Diaz looking for submissions off his back. Well, if Ristinen is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Diaz looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Ristinen in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Diaz tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Ristinen!
