PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jason Stackhouse (ranked 518 p4p, 750 weight class) and Thomas Maeda (ranked 66 p4p, 90 weight class). Stackhouse 's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, True Blood. Maeda is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Submission. Jason Stackhouse has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jason Stackhouse !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thomas Maeda!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Glass and Steven Brown.

Stackhouse throws a lazy uppercut
and Maeda makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Maeda shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Stackhouse as he avoids it easily.
Nice defenses there by Maeda.
Maeda is looking for the big counter here.

Maeda moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Stackhouse misses with a looping left.
Stackhouse moves into range and connects with a jab.
Maeda uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Stackhouse .
Stackhouse connects with a good right hand that stumbles Maeda. Maeda circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Jason Stackhouse seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Maeda bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Stackhouse 's head.
Stackhouse has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Doom's Gym in the buildup to the fight.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Maeda wants to control but Stackhouse is keeping him busy.
Maeda thows a huge punch but Stackhouse dodges it nicely.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Well, if Maeda is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Maeda is looking to pass Stackhouse 's guard but actually Stackhouse recovers to full guard.

Maeda connects with a couple of short punches.
Maeda trying to control but Stackhouse is working from the bottom.
Stackhouse wants to stand up but Maeda is controlling him.
Maeda has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Maeda looking to hit a scissor sweep but Stackhouse is one step ahead there.
Maeda has a closed guard, preventing Stackhouse from standing up.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Maeda holds on and takes a little breather.
Stackhouse knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Maeda on the ground.
Maeda wants to sweep but no luck.

Maeda escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Stackhouse gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Maeda controls Stackhouse momentarily but Stackhouse frees himself.
Stackhouse will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Maeda seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Maeda shoots in but Stackhouse avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Stackhouse swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Stackhouse swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Stackhouse ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stackhouse takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Stackhouse fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Maeda manages to avoid it.
Maeda connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Stackhouse momentarily.

Maeda tries to counter with a clinch but Stackhouse shakes him off and moves away.

Stackhouse stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Stackhouse wants it to stay on the feet.
It looked like Stackhouse wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Stackhouse tries to sprawl but Maeda drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Stackhouse is not content to let Maeda control the position.
Maeda tries to pass the half guard into mount. Stackhouse knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Maeda is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Stackhouse doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Maeda.
Maeda is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Maeda seems to be working for a kimura but Stackhouse defends the submission attempt.

Maeda wants to control but Stackhouse is keeping him busy.
Maeda wants to free his trapped foot but Stackhouse is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Maeda thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Maeda is working for a submission of some sort.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Maeda wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stackhouse keeps working.
Maeda is nestled in close to Stackhouse , controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Maeda looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Maeda is just content to waste time from the top position. Stackhouse takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Maeda trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Stackhouse avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Maeda trying to control the position from guard on top but Stackhouse is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Maeda wants to pass the guard but Stackhouse is keeping the position.
Stackhouse keeping moving, preventing Maeda from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jason Stackhouse will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Maeda shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Stackhouse defends it nicely.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Maeda lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Stackhouse looks to land a right hand but Maeda moved out of range.

The fighters circle momentarily. Stackhouse darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Stackhouse takes a swing at Maeda's ribcage but misses.

Maeda looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Stackhouse leaves Maeda with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Some bone on bone action there as Stackhouse checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Maeda cracks Stackhouse with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Maeda tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Stackhouse swivels and escapes.
It looked like Stackhouse was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Maeda.

Stackhouse is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Maeda throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Stackhouse misses the jab.
Maeda changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Stackhouse tries to avoid it but Maeda manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Stackhouse to the ground. Stackhouse escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Maeda is still on wobbly legs! Can Stackhouse finish him?
Stackhouse throws a jab but it's blocked by Maeda.
Stackhouse pounces like a tiger and cracks Maeda with a vicious hook! Maeda is down but not out! Stackhouse follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Jason Stackhouse !
Jason Stackhouse very nearly forgot to thank HELLS BALLS RECOVERY amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
In defeat, Thomas Maeda stepped up to the mic, saying 'Through Japanese translator to English. "My opponent was better today. I will not underestimate him next time"'.
