PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Makoa Aketu (ranked 2005 p4p, 217 weight class) and Scott McRay (ranked 2987 p4p, 313 weight class). McRay is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Choices. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Sandra Marshall and Michael Johnstone.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McRay tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Aketu was well out of range. Poor timing from McRay.
McRay misses the shot to the body.
Aketu slips under a jab.

It looks like Makoa Aketu has been cut.
Aketu misses with a wild body shot.
McRay lands a glancing blow to the side of Aketu's head.
Aketu uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Aketu has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Island Sparring in the buildup to the fight.
Aketu paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
McRay thows a left - swing and a miss!
McRay lands a right hook to the body.
McRay slips a straight right by Aketu.
McRay misses with a looping left.
McRay's coach down at Prosper Training was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on McRay's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
McRay gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

McRay missing with a left hand there. Aketu was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
McRay keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Aketu stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
McRay throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Aketu is breathing heavily.
Aketu misses with a hook. McRay ducked under it nicely.
McRay swats away the attempt to clinch by Aketu.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McRay finds Aketu's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! Aketu flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. McRay lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure Aketu will be OK.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:09 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Scott McRay!
