Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Massi Vass! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Torsten Johansson ! The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Peter Branson and Sandra Marshall.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A punch combination from Vass misses. Johansson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Vass throws a combination that misses and Johansson counters with an inside leg kick. Vass throws a left and a right that both miss
and Johansson counters with a nice leg kick. Johansson doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Vass misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Johansson has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Johansson lands a front kick. Vass misses with a lunging right hand
and Johansson counters with a right hand to the body. Vass wants to slow Johansson down by chopping away at his legs. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Vass lands a nice leg kick that just misses Johansson 's sensitive parts. Johansson closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Vass swings for the body but Johansson moves out of range.
Vass misses the jab. Johansson misses with a leg kick and Vass moves into the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vass stalls. Vass fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Vass is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. The referee is keeping an eye on Vass - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Vass has Johansson pressed against the cage.
Vass throws a head punch that misses. Vass lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Johansson backwards. Vass fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vass is struggling to control the position. Vass decides to pull guard. Vass controlling Johansson 's posture. Vass looking to hit a scissor sweep but Johansson is one step ahead there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Vass manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Johansson manages to get himself to full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vass slips nicely into half guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Johansson can do anything to dispel that myth. Vass controlling the action here. Vass looks to score some points with some ground and pound. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Vass is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Johansson is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
