The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akira thuds his right hand into Melamies's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Melamies pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Akira looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Melamies throws a lazy head kick
and Akira cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Akira throws out a counter right but Melamies avoids it with no problem.
Melamies throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Akira slips a jab and a cross from Melamies.

and Akira counters with a lovely straight right hand!
It looks like Ibrahim Mamu Melamies has been cut.

Melamies scores with a decent looking hook.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Melamies moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Akira swings for the body but Melamies moves out of range.
Akira stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Melamies.
The fight moves into the clinch position.

Akira is pushing Melamies up against the ropes, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Melamies swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Akira swings wildly with an uppercut but Melamies uses good head movement to avoid it.

Akira has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Melamies seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Akira can turn it around.

It seemed like Akira was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

and Akira scores with a counter punch that sends Melamies to the canvas! Akira smells blood - he's punishing Melamies with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Melamies has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!

A relieved looking Hokuto Akira thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
