Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Shareef Aswad!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Sam Van Roosmalen!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Peter Branson and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Roosmalen lands a slapping body shot.
The fight stays on the outside here - Aswad looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Aswad tries to close the distance and clinch up but Van Roosmalen swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Aswad will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Van Roosmalen lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Aswad tries to clinch but Van Roosmalen is having none of it.
A shot to the liver by Van Roosmalen. Beautiful body shot.
Van Roosmalen connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Aswad on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Van Roosmalen lands a jab to the nose.
Aswad takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Aswad shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Van Roosmalen sprawls well. Van Roosmalen wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Aswad gets slowly back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Van Roosmalen lands with a kick to the ribs.
Van Roosmalen throws a right and a left that Aswad avoids nicely.
Van Roosmalen lands an overhand right.
Van Roosmalen keeps Aswad at a distance using the push kick.
Aswad shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Van Roosmalen but Van Roosmalen pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shareef Aswad. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Aswad tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Van Roosmalen paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Van Roosmalen lands with a nice body kick.

Van Roosmalen cracks Aswad with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Van Roosmalen throws out a powerful jab.
Aswad tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Van Roosmalen defends well and Aswad ends up having to push Van Roosmalen into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Aswad shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Van Roosmalen pushes Aswad off looking to stand but Aswad dives back in and keeps control.

Aswad seems to be working for a kimura but Van Roosmalen defends the submission attempt.
Aswad has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Aswad is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Aswad tries to pass the half guard into mount. Van Roosmalen knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Aswad is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Van Roosmalen is not content to let Aswad control the position.

Aswad is trying to work for a kimura but Van Roosmalen is defending well.

Aswad has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Van Roosmalen defend it? Aswad steps over the head and cranks it - Van Roosmalen is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Aswad!
