PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Corsair Light (ranked 3518 p4p, 336 weight class) and Uri Romanov (ranked 3556 p4p, 342 weight class). Uri Romanov told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Corsair Light!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Uri Romanov!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, John Kavanagh and Jorge Garcia.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Romanov pushes Light up against the cage in a clinch.

Romanov has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Light is trying to keep an underhook but Romanov manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Light has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Romanov is pressing down on Light's thigh, looking to free his foot. Light is holding on for now.
Romanov working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Romanov has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Light is proving hard to escape from.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Light looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Romanov has picked Light up and slammed him! Light can't keep hold of the triangle and Romanov manages to pass to side control!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Light is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Romanov is aware though and is defending well.

Light working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Romanov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Romanov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Romanov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Light. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Romanov got a little sloppy there for a moment and Light has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Romanov has managed to get both his arms back between Light's legs - danger averted.
Light manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Romanov manages to get himself to full guard.

Light is fighting to break Romanov's control of his arms but Romanov is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Romanov wants to counter with a clinch but Light pushes him away.

Light is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Light sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Light wants to control but Romanov is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Romanov landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Light has a hand on Romanov's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Romanov takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Light tries to lock up and control but Romanov gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Romanov doesn't have the hooks in and Light manages to turn into his guard.

Romanov wants to get up but he can't break Light's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Let's hope that Romanov has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
