Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bayden Wood! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 3 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kristaps Zutis! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Sergei Dronov and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wood moves into the clinch. Wood lands a shoulder strike. Wood misses with a knee to the head. Wood gets through Zutis's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Wood scores with a nice hook to the head. Zutis manages to break the clinch.
Wood stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Wood wants it to stay on the feet. It looked like Wood wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Zutis is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. A looping hook to the body misses from Wood. Zutis does a little dance to reset his feet. Zutis shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Zutis was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Wood is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Zutis's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Wood wants to control but Zutis is keeping busy and won't allow it. Wood is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control. Zutis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wood. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Zutis is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Wood moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wood is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Zutis has his hands clasped together but Wood extends and breaks Zutis's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Wood.
