PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Artemis Entreri (ranked 2021 p4p, 4083 weight class) and Detektyw Pikachu (ranked 281 p4p, 492 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Artemis Entreri!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Detektyw Pikachu!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Igor Prikhodko and Vladimir Khabensky.

Entreri wants to slow Pikachu down by chopping away at his legs.

A kick lands to the mid section there for Entreri.

Pikachu drops back looking for a leg! Entreri is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Entreri manages to kick Pikachu off! Pikachu jumps back into Entreri's guard.

Entreri is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Pikachu defends well.

Pikachu is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Pikachu stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Entreri swivels though and keeps the full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Entreri is refusing to be controlled, as Pikachu sits in half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Pikachu is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Entreri is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Pikachu seems to be working for a kimura but Entreri defends the submission attempt.

Pikachu takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Entreri thows a body kick. Pikachu tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Pikachu throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Entreri throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Pikachu is looking to clinch but Entreri is avoiding it.
Entreri throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Pikachu.

Entreri throws a nice looking combination but Pikachu bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
A looping hook to the body misses from Pikachu. Entreri does a little dance to reset his feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Entreri misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Artemis Entreri is winning the standup battle so far.
Pikachu throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Entreri's waist but Entreri gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Pikachu off to one side.
Artemis Entreri has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Detektyw Pikachu.
Pikachu tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Entreri manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Pikachu swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Entreri dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Pikachu. That did some damage!
Pikachu looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Entreri is fending him off so far but Pikachu persists. Nope, Entreri circles away and we're back to standing.

and Pikachu counters with a three punch combo that has Entreri backing up. Entreri nods at Pikachu to acknowledge the strikes.
Pikachu takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Pikachu doesn't manage to clinch there - Entreri circles away.
Pikachu looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Entreri is fending him off so far but Pikachu persists. Nope, Entreri circles away and we're back to standing.

Pikachu shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Entreri's guard.
Detektyw Pikachu has got the better of the ground game so far.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Entreri is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Entreri fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Pikachu manages to avoid it.
Entreri goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Pikachu has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Pikachu shoots in looking for a takedown but Entreri manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Pikachu's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

It looked like Entreri was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Pikachu feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Entreri escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pikachu gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Pikachu drops back, looking for a kneebar! Entreri looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Entreri looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Entreri!

Entreri goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Pikachu has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Entreri but great work by Pikachu.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Artemis Entreri.
I think Entreri has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
