Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Matheus Vasco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chew Backer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Chew Backer enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matheus Vasco!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Chew Backer!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, John Mangel and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vasco tries to clinch but Backer moves out of range.
Backer moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Backer pushes Vasco up against the cage in a clinch.
Vasco is pressed up against the cage. Backer has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Vasco down to the mat. Vasco avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

and Backer counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Backer pulls Vasco into guard.
Backer is pulling down on Vasco's head to control his posture.
Backer looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Vasco knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Backer on the ground.
Backer bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Vasco's guard.

Vasco looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Backer wants to pass the guard but Vasco is keeping the position.

Vasco utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Backer connects with a couple of short punches.
Backer thows a big elbow that misses.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Backer has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Vasco has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Backer can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Backer slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Backer seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Vasco throws a sloppy head kick and Backer moves out of range easily.

Vasco is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Backer drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Backer jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vasco is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Vasco manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Backer manages to get himself to full guard.

Backer is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Backer gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Vasco blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Backer has clasped his hands together around Vasco's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Backer wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vasco keeps working.
Vasco is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Backer is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Vasco swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.

Vasco is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Vasco can't escape the position.
Backer takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Backer cracks Vasco with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Vasco is squirming around, avoiding Backer's attempts to control the action.

Vasco wants to hold on but Backer pushes him away.
Backer controlling the pace for now.
Backer wants to control the pace but Vasco is squirming around nicely.

Poor strikes thrown by Backer there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Backer jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Vasco is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Vasco and Backer has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Chew Backer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Vasco wants to clinch

and Backer moves into the clinch.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Backer.
Backer can't break the clinch.
Backer gets through Vasco's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Vasco tries to break the clinch but Backer is controlling the position.

and Backer counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Vasco has one of Backer's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.

Vasco pushes Backer away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Backer gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Vasco is looking to regain half guard here but Backer keeps moving and retains side control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Backer has a takedown stuffed.

Vasco turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Backer tries to roll over but Vasco keeps him under control.
Vasco throws a strike but Backer avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Backer is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Vasco is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Backer pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Vasco tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Backer just stands there and leans against the cage.

Backer throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Vasco blocks it with crossed arms.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Backer takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Vasco unloads a knee to the mid-section. Backer lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Backer wants to break the clinch but can't.

Backer's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

and Backer counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Backer has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Vasco is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Backer tries to land knees in the clinch but Vasco avoids the damage to the body.
Vasco tries to pull guard but Backer holds him up against the cage and eventually Vasco drops back down to his feet.
Vasco is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Matheus Vasco has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Chew Backer is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Chew Backer comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Backer has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
