PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gerald Wallace (ranked 4556 p4p, 515 weight class) and Luke Hobbs (ranked 5639 p4p, 564 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Luke Hobbs!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Daniel Franklin and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wallace misses with a wild combination.
Nice defenses there by Wallace.
Wallace swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Wallace seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Wallace lands a head shot.
Hobbs swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Wallace counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Wallace displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Hobbs throws out the jab.
Hobbs dodges the punch combination from Wallace.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hobbs lands a nice hook to Wallace's body. Wallace takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Hobbs throws a right hand that misses
and Wallace counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Wallace will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Hobbs throws a series of punches but Wallace moves out of range.
Hobbs throws a looping overhand right but Wallace ducks down to avoid it.
Hobbs ducks under a wild hook from Wallace.
Hobbs jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Hobbs scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

Hobbs takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Wallace dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Wallace comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hobbs swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Wallace counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Hobbs takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Hobbs misses with a jab, cross combination.
Wallace slips under a jab.
Wallace moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Wallace lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Wallace takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Hobbs is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Wallace is keeping busy.
Hobbs takes a shot to the head.
Wallace cracks Hobbs with a nice body shot.
Wallace gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.


It looks like Luke Hobbs has been cut.
Hobbs looks winded!

Wallace breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Hobbs throws a poor cross that misses
and Wallace counters with a straight right hand.

Wallace's corner calls for a 1-2. Wallace obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Hobbs takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Wallace has managed to clinch.
A short right from Wallace.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Wallace manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
A frustrated look appears on Hobbs's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Wallace lands a body punch.
Hobbs takes an elbow to the forehead.
Nice body punch from Wallace - that landed with a thud.
Wallace lands an elbow just above Hobbs 's eye.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Wallace stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Good body shot from Wallace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gerald Wallace dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Luke Hobbs's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Wallace lands a big uppercut and Hobbs crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Hobbs looks OK. Wallace waves Hobbs back to his feet!


Hobbs is rocked!
Wallace lands with a precision combination! Left, right, uppercut and Hobbs falls flat on his face, eyes wide open but he's out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Gerald Wallace!
