Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mike Stewart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karl Veneracion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mike Stewart!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Karl Veneracion!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Sosuke Kotani and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Veneracion closes the distance and clinches up with Stewart, looking for a takedown. Veneracion pushes Stewart against the cage but Stewart circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Veneracion shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Stewart as he jumps to the side.
Stewart keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Mike Stewart has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Karl Veneracion.
Veneracion misses with a takedown attempt - Stewart sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Stewart fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Veneracion sprawls well initially but Stewart persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Stewart is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Veneracion defends it well.
Stewart is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Veneracion is just riding it out for now. Stewart eventually gives up the hold.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Veneracion is defending against the submission attempts here by Stewart.

Stewart is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Veneracion is just riding it out for now. Stewart eventually gives up the hold.

Veneracion tries to roll over but Stewart keeps him under control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Stewart looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Veneracion is trying to stand back up but Stewart is controlling him
Veneracion flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Stewart wants to work for an arm triangle but Veneracion is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Veneracion wants to get back to his feet.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Veneracion doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Stewart counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Stewart.

Stewart pushing down on Veneracion's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Veneracion is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
Veneracion defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Stewart.
Stewart is going olschool here, as he tries to force Veneracion to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Veneracion shrugs it off.
Veneracion is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Stewart is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Veneracion can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Veneracion is squirming around, avoiding Stewart's attempts to control the action.
Stewart has hold of Veneracion's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Veneracion manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Veneracion keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Stewart tries to control but Veneracion wriggling away.
Stewart jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Veneracion manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Stewart thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Veneracion manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Stewart's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Veneracion swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Veneracion tries for a takedown but Stewart circles away easily
and Stewart counters with a single leg into guard. Veneracion didn't expect that.
Stewart controlling from the top position.
Veneracion punching to the body, from the bottom.
Veneracion is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Veneracion is looking to stand up but Stewart isn't so interested in that idea.
Stewart thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Stewart's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Stewart drops back looking for a leg! Veneracion is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Veneracion manages to kick Stewart off! Stewart jumps back into Veneracion's guard.
Veneracion lands a decent shot there.
Stewart thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Veneracion pushes Stewart off and gets back to his feet.
Veneracion has his takedown stuffed
and Stewart counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Veneracion throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

Veneracion is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Veneracion will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Stewart trying to control the position from guard on top but Veneracion is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Stewart drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Veneracion dives on top into guard.
Veneracion postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Veneracion loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Stewart working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Veneracion doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Veneracion manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Veneracion is looking to work some ground and pound but Stewart has wrist control.
Veneracion lands a couple of digs.
Veneracion stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stewart swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Stewart holds on and takes a little breather.
Veneracion gets to his feet - Stewart follows without any prompting.
Veneracion has his takedown stuffed
and Stewart counters with a nice double leg into side control. Veneracion won't be happy with that.
